Islander is the epitome of a pocket super yacht in every way.

Built by the world renowned Dutch mega yacht manufacturer Icon Yachts, and the brain child of Ken Freivokh, who is better known for creations such as Maltese Falcon & Sycara IV. Islander is perhaps the only yacht in her size range to ever boast such impressive credentials.

Islander is designed to be a luxury long range cruiser, with all the amenities of a much larger yacht, but packaged in a more manageable and smaller vessel for the owner who does not want the overheads associated with a larger yacht and more crew.

With a cruising range of 2,200 nautical miles made possible by her hybrid propulsion, Islander is capable extended cruising, giving her owner unprecedented exploring possibilities previously only seen in traditional full displacement explorer vessels in this size range.

Islander takes these aspects and combines them with the most popular features seen in production flybridge yachts, to give you the best of both worlds.

Islander is partially completed, and will take around 18 months to finish.


This project was commissioned by an experienced yachtsman with a clear vision in mind, create a pocket megayacht utilizing the industries top builders, designers and equipment. Business commitments meant this client was unable to complete the project, meaning Islander is now available for the most savvy of yacht buyers to take advantage of this unique situation and still be able to customize the yacht to their own taste.
The Team

Based in Holland, the home of yacht building, ICON work with the worlds tops designers, utilizing a hyper-efficient system that combines extensive pre-planning with an innovative modular construction technique, that guarantees quality and reduces build time.


ICON yachts are renowned for their refit services and are unique in their ability to provide open sea access combined with syncrolift and heated covered dry dock facilities. Handling yachts up to 150 meter in length and almost 7.5 meter drafts, making it the deepest shed in Holland. 


ICON have consistently proven that their proximity to the best suppliers, unique modular build process and flexible project management capable of adapting to client needs, means that refits are completed on budget, on time and to the highest standards of quality.


As well as Islander and multiple refit projects and conversions, ICON Yachts is working on a new build project of 84meters designed by Tim Heywood, which will be delivered in 2018. Furthermore, the shipyard is working on a 45 meter exciting new build project which is still undisclosed.



Ken Freivokh Design is a multi-disciplinary team renowned for creating unique “out of the box” design solutions, always aimed at raising the bar of excellence.


The design studio is based in the UK’s South Coast, overlooking the river Hamble, where the design team enjoy working within a busy shipyard atmosphere.


Recent launches include the 64m all wood classic schooner “Mikhail S Vorontsov”, with external styling and interior by the Freivokh team, the 50m cutting edge motoryacht ‘Euphoria’ for Mayra Yachts, the classic 28m yacht Metejon, brought back to its former glory in Buenos Aires, and the very special 28m hybrid semi-displacement motor yacht at ICON.


The Freivokh Team designed the unique 115ft Art Deco “Atlantide” for Tom Perkins, who then proceeded to commission Ken Freivokh Design to develop the external styling and interior design for the 88m Dynarig Clipper “Maltese Falcon”, the largest privately owned sailing yacht in the World. 


Current projects include the external design and styling of a 141m four masted schooner building at Dream Ship Victory, the design of a 107m performance motoryacht Stiletto with Oceanco, external styling of a 140m quite unique superyacht for an extremely experience owner, the interior of the 74m Turquoise Yachts’ ‘Barracuda’, a 50m Expedition Yacht in collaboration with Rossinavi. 


Designed by the world renowned Ken Freivokh, Islander is as striking on the interior as she is on the exterior.


The main salon has an open plan concept, with an endless run of oversized windows flowing through the salon and dining room, and forwards towards into the on-deck master suite. This expanse of windows truly brings the outside in, and creates a unique and tranquil experience on the water.


Buyers will have the opportunity to customize the interior styling to their own taste, ensuring a 100% customized package.


The lower deck guest layout is also able to be customized by the buyer, with options for adding two or three cabins in this area, and separate options for the crew accommodations.


Similar to the interior, the exterior can be customized to the buyers preferences.


Both the main deck aft, and flybridge are oversized for this class vessel, and can therefore offer a world of possibilities.


The current proposal designed by Ken Freivokh offers comfortable aft deck dining for eight guests, and a full service bar for more relaxed entertaining and parties.


Up on the flybridge, relaxing built in seating lies forward to port and starboard, and aft is a second dining option, larger bar area with BBQ, and sun loungers.


A larger flybridge will not be found on any comparable yacht of this size.

Diesel electric hybrid power package

  • 2 x Generator sets
    • Scania DI 9M engines; rated 269kW @ 1800 rpm
    • 400+vAC 1500/1800 rpm double drum PM generator feeding the 750vDC main electrical busses via Powermaster Inverters.
  • Engine and generator maintenance and service points located at the side facing the centre of the ER so that they are easily accessible.
  • The generator enclosures will each have water cooled environmental units to further reduce the volume of noisy air cooling and ventilation.
  • Fixed controls at the two helms and inside the engine room.
  • CAN bus (J1939) connection to AMC system for bridge and remote IP monitoring.
  • Electric automatic starting with local emergency control.
  • The main propulsion will be done by two Hydrosta (PM prop 225) thrusters, electrically driven. Both units can be azimuthed, using Steering Units, to provide directional control to the yacht.
  • The speed and directional control is under the command of the Navio controls system. Maneuvering speed, electronic synchronized throttles control forward and reverse speeds at both helms.
  • All primary control data to be available at Sun deck.
  • One hand-held plug-in Joystick maneuvering controller with 5 meter cable shall be supplied.
