Features

Samara, a beautiful explorer style catamaran, which comes complete with its own helicopter is now for sale. Launched in 2015 by New Zealand yard Pachoud Yachts, naval architecture is by Scott Jutson with an interior by Sylvia Bolton. Powered by twin 800hp MAN R6-800 engines, Samara cruises at 12 knots, with a maximum speed of 22 knots.

Samara is named for the winged seed of the sycamore tree and, like her namesake, latitude and altitudes were the key philosophies behind her construction. Built for owners who were looking to adventure around the world, Samara is a true explorer style yacht that perfectly blends the practical requirements for global cruising with luxurious design. An array of innovative features allows autonomous operation, allowing her owners to cruise with or without crew, making her perfect for those looking for added privacy or the satisfaction of piloting their own vessel. Her design draws on the influences of the elements through a variety of forms, colors, textures and materials.

Samara’s owners built her with the intention of living on board long term, and she was designed to suit this brief and boasts extensive storage, a good variety of living spaces, generous volumes and stable performance. Every area on board features three types of storage – displayed, visible and concealed – to maximize on board spaces. The large open plan main salon serves as the heart of the yacht and cleverly blends a design suited for entertaining with the required practicalities of living on board long term. Throughout the yacht a light, modern and bright interior only maximizes the effects of the large volumes. A striking feature in the main salon is a fireplace which, as well as being practical and filling spaces with warmth, acts as a divider between the main salon and the sunken den that is perfect for cozy movie sessions or curling up with a book.

A spacious galley is also at the center of the yacht and has been set up for interactive cooking and entertaining. Equipped with a five burner gas stove, steam over, dish drawer, fridge, freezer drawers, ice maker, trash compactor, dual sinks and plentiful storage for food, kitchenware, glassware and dishes, the galley features all the comforts of home in a luxurious space in the heart of the action.  There is even an auxiliary pantry large enough to store more than a month’s worth of food in the center of the salon, concealed below an electric opening hatch.  When accommodating guests, an additional two fridges and freezers hidden on the lower deck can be switched on ensuring everyone’s needs are met and no power is wasted when their capacity is not needed. The main living area leads directly out to a sheltered dining space aft, with barbeque, perfect for al fresco dining and gatherings. The dining table allows seating for up to 10 guests and can be adjusted for use as a dining or coffee table. Remote controlled electric blinds allow this space to be enclosed and become a part of the main salon in adverse weather conditions.

Samara boasts three well-appointed staterooms, accommodating eight guests, with two crew cabins. The huge master stateroom, which includes a walk in wardrobe takes full advantage of the 9.5m beam and uses split level flooring to create distinct spaces within. A special window, that can quickly turn opaque to ensure privacy, allows views from the master suite all the way down the length of the yacht.  The Master Bathroom features a steam shower, waterfall tapware and views out tonto the water.

Two queen guest staterooms are located on the lower deck boasting large, light filled spaces. The Guest Staterooms are queen beds in the forward section of the hulls both featuring two closets, additional storage at the foot of the bed and ensuite bathrooms. There are two well-appointed crew staterooms which can easily be used as guest suites for larger groups and feature ensuite bathrooms as well.  They are the aft staterooms and are connected to the engine rooms through a sound proof door in the bathroom. There is access to the aft deck through the engine room so as not to disturb guests. The port side holds the Captain’s cabin with a double bed and desk and is fitted to the same high standards as the other guest cabins allowing option to use as guest accommodation if owner operated. The starboard crew cabin is a bunk with a double bed and single bunk above. The forward and aft cabins are separated by the midships stairway and also house the laundry facilities and general storage. There is also a dayhead on the main deck.

On the foredeck, with easy access from the master suite, a saltwater tub brings the ocean to the yacht, allowing for relaxation in all climates, with nearby casual seating for enjoying views across the water. When not in use as a helipad the upper deck converts to lounging space with sunpads, for relaxing in the warm weather.

The ability to carry a helicopter is a huge asset for a yacht of this size, allowing easy access to the yacht night and day, and Samara’s asking price includes a Robinson R44 helicopter. Impressive technology effortlessly transforms Samara’s helipad into operational mode, sliding the helipad aft, the instrument arch forward and folding the rails down, providing a large touch down area suited to several models including a Bell 206 or Hughes MD500, and suitable for night and day landings alike.  The Robinson R44 is a 2009 Canadian Registered with approximately 1200 hours and is included in the sell of this catamaran. It has pop out floats, a cargo hook, A/C, frame tied downs, a custom cover and very good electronics package. The helicopter just completed its annual. There is a 2000 litre refueling facility for the helicopter, strap down points on board and the ability to remove and stow the rotor blades separately giving the helicopter a permanent position onboard even during off shore passage.

Easy water access for the yachts’ numerous toys and tenders includes a remote controlled hydraulic submersible platform allowing the quick launch and retrieval of Samara’s custom brand new BRIG with a 60hp Suzuki 4 stroke. The tender sits on a custom cradle on a turntable. As Samara spends most of its time at anchor and pointing into the wind (helping heli operations) the owner easily lowers the platform and runs the tender straight off / into the cradle. Once the platform is lifted and up to deck level, the turntable spins midships on a polymer disc. Very simple, easy to launch and retrieve and of course you have the 200L unleaded fuelling station in a locker just meters away. The platform is rated to around 800kg capacity, the lifting mechanism came from Germany. At the water line, the tender can be easily floated on or off its holding cradle. Other equipment includes 5m sailing kayaks cleverly housed in two lockers for easy launching and a full diving set up. A crane is discretely built into the aft deck overhead for lifting the motorbikes and push bikes for inland exploration from their lockers onto a dock or loading the tender while its securely held by the cradle.

The wheelhouse boasts all the latest technologies including controls on the arm rest of the helm allowing vessel steering while seated. There is comfortable seating for guests to enjoy a bird eye view when coming into port. Equipped with Matetron digital control and monitoring allows all tank levels, battery voltages, temperatures, lighting, A/C and helipad related items to be programmed, controlled and monitored remotely from a digital device.

Safety and security was also taken into consideration throughout the build of  Samara.  In addition to camera monitoring, pressure sensitive areas in the floor detect the presence of potential intruders and send a clear warning by flashing interior and exterior lights and sounding the horn. Should this deterrent fail and a worst case scenario emerge, the engine rooms are equipped with satellite phones and can be used as safe rooms while waiting for assistance. Remote control from a mobile device allows vessel control to be maintained or for all systems to be shut down while sheltering in the engine room.

In addition to her primary fuel tanks, the helicopter refueling tanks can be used to supply Samara’s two MAN R6-800 800hp engines, providing cruise at 12 knots with the ability to sprint up to 22 knots if desired.  Samara boasts a range of 2500Nm while cruising and 1200Nm at top speed. The small engines are a testament to the efficiency of the catamaran hull form, cruising in Samara uses a miserly 6 liters per nautical mile and maintenance costs are a fraction of the much larger engines.

Careful design, advanced technologies and beautiful styling make Samara a must see for anyone considering a yacht with the credentials to see the world but without any compromise on luxury living.
