Yacht Introduction

Zeepaard, Dutch for ‘Seahorse’ was built by France’s boutique shipyard JFA to RINA Class. Designed by yacht design studio Vripack, known for its holistic approach and modern philosophy through its extensive navel architecture and engineering experience, she was launched in 2003.

Built for ocean going expeditions, she undertook a three year ocean cruise around the world, travelling over 50,000 nautical miles with 39 countries visited. The circumnavigation was rewarded with a Neptune trophy as the joint winner of the Voyager’s Award at the 2014 World Superyacht Awards. In all, she has travelled over 72,000 nautical miles to 44 different countries.

Her build requirement to JFA was to provide a yacht built to the highest standards, meeting a vision of long range comfort combined with economic operating platforms. In order to meet the needs of such a transpacific range, the yacht has to be exceptionally seaworthy whilst offering space and luxury for comfortable cruising in order to explore the most remote places

JFA, based at Concarneau in Brittany, a region in France rich in maritime heritage, is a shipyard known for its boutique builds, where all their yachts built in both aluminium and composite using years of expertise in a family run environment, now explore the world. There was no compromise in the design by Vripack’s engineers and architects. They used the best quality modern technology on offer. Design concepts were rigorously tested and built in full aluminium. Zeepaard’s full displacement hull and well-engineered mechanical systems are designed to last.

MCA compliant and built to be the best sea going vessel available for world touring, Zeepaard boasts a high flaring bow and owner and guest cabins are at the central area of the yacht’s movement. Active stabilizers provide excellent heavy weather capability and sea kindly motion. A very dry yacht, the bridge windows never see spray on them and guests don’t hear the engine sounds or anchor windless thanks to high end soundproofing technology

Zeepaard’s accommodations host 10 guests in 5 cabins. The layout includes a full-beam master suite with king sized bed and four double cabins with queen sized beds, all with ensuite facilities. An additional feature for the master suite is a private sauna, spa and massage table connected directly to the ensuite bathroom facilities

Externally, a special feature presented is a crow’s nest on the mast offering spectacular views to the owner and guests whilst cruising or at anchor. Extensive deck spaces allow for leisure time and multiple tenders and watersports toys are on offer

Full time captain and crew immaculately maintain this yacht

In 2011, a full refit was completed including a paint job.

The engine room sees twin 475hp Caterpillar engines offering a cruising speed of 13 knots and a transoceanic range of 7,000 nautical miles

To explore the hidden gems of the world, consider this expedition yacht to be the most fuel efficient and self-sufficient way to do so with the added value of comfort and space thanks to her modern design

Toured areas of the world include:

Mediterranean to the Caribbean
The US East Coast
San Blas Islands
Panama Canal crossing to the Galapagos
Tahiti
Rarotonga
Fiji
Australia
Indonesia
Thailand, and Hong Kong

Walk-Through Description

A hydraulic passerelle provides access to the aft deck to a spacious and enclosed guest area. This area converts when necessary for al fresco dining for a leisurely coffee area. A fully equipped bar is provided for crew service to guests for entertainment and drinks

The main salon welcomes guests to an open plan and comfortable space. The combination of mahogany, cherry and teak woods found throughout the yacht enhance the yachts warm feel and adds to the styling.

At the aft area of the main salon is a cinematic set up with large sofas arranged for viewing the latest movies on the large projector and screen (which when not in use is concealed in the ceiling)

The large dining table accommodates eight people, situated portside next to the expansive salon windows which allow for beautiful views whilst guests dine. A bar lies to starboard, ideal for pre-dinner cocktails

Ahead of the salon, guests find the main staircase hall leading to a large and fully equipped galley, designed to cater for all needs of the owner and guests whether at sea or alongside.

Starboardside a door accesses the deck and the yacht’s secondary exit by use of a hydraulic side-boarding ladder. Moving to the lower deck the owner and guest accommodation are found, located in what can be described as the most quiet and calm part of the yacht thanks to modern engineering in sound proofing where the noises of the engine room are not heard.

Master suite is a full beam suite with king size bed, his and hers storage. The ensuite connects to a unique owner’s spa, with a jacuzzi and sauna, an additional feature added a few years ago.

Guests will find comfort in four staterooms, all equipped with queen beds, large ensuites and individual entertainment systems

Crew quarters are found at the forward part of the yacht with three staterooms with private ensuite facilities. A spacious crew lounge offers a place for crew to rest when off duty. The yacht runs with 7 or 8 crew and can sleep up to 9 crew.

The captain’s stateroom is located on the bridge deck

The bridge deck and wheelhouse is up two levels and to the front with full views all around and equipped with the latest navigational equipment for a safe passage.

Crew and guests can walk around the wheelhouse on the Portuguese bridge where two side wing control stations are available to allow smooth docking maneuvers

Aft of the wheelhouse, the Captain’s cabin is portside and there is a day head to starboard. Continuing from there you enter the sky lounge. Probably boasting the best feature this yacht has to offer, the sky lounge has very large windows for natural light and views for the centrally located work desk. There is a dining table for additional dining options looking onto full beam sliding doors that lead to the dedicated aft deck. Here is a comfortable lounging area with a round sunbed.

From this area, stairs lead up to a further split level sun deck and the choice of many round sunbeds. The upper sundeck is the ideal position for the best views this yacht can offer whilst underway or anchored.

On the main deck, leading to the bow is the dedicated tender and toy storage area in the docking bay. A 2000kg crane launches or retrieves the tenders and toys, managed by two crew members.

Forward of this, a watertight door gives second access to the crew quarter. On the foredeck are the anchor and windless systems and all mooring needs for the yacht

Finally a very unique feature can be found, the electrically raised crow’s nest on the mast grants two persons full 360 degree views over the bow and aft. Ideal for fun and entertainment or an added security devise, it can be used by crew members to enhance their view while navigating in shallow coral reefs.

The lower aft section is designated for the extremely spacious, well kept and maintained engine room, workshop area and storage facilities. The aft lazarette is where guests can access the diving equipment, and extra toy and tender storage. The hydraulic aft door is then lowered and transformed into a swimming platform.
